Grandma Delma

When making our Christmas plans this year, we tried really hard to make it a trip where we could see everyone, but not be away from home for 2 weeks.  It's just too hard.  Plans change, and usually for the better.  My sweet Grandma Dyreng passed away on fairly suddenly on December 7, 2014.  It was hard for me to be away from my family and deal with it kind of alone for a few days.  As soon as we could, we drove to Utah for the funeral.  I was so blessed to spend the weekend with all of my Dyreng family, and then stay in Gunnison for almost 3 weeks through Christmas.

I feel kind of weird blogging about something so personal, but because this is the only form of journaling I do, I am posting my Grandma's obituary so I will hopefully have it to look back on in the future.  She was so dear to me.  I loved being able to spend so much of my childhood with her- watching her quilt, playing games, family parties, baking, and just visiting.  It was so fun to share stories about her during the weekend of her funeral.  She was so fun and light-hearted.  At the same time, she had such a strong testimony and shared that just as much as she shared a laugh.  I will miss her!

Delma Dyreng
Gunnison, Utah
Delma Tuttle Dyreng passed away peacefully on December 7, 2014 in Provo Utah, at the age of 87. She was born February 19, 1927 in Manti, Utah, a daughter of Lloyd Wayne and Vera Dorothea Keller Tuttle. She married Paul Peter Dyreng, December 27, 1950 in the Manti LDS Temple. They spent 64 wonderful years together.
Delma graduated from Manti High School, and Snow College. She loved the gospel, and served a mission for the LDS Church in Southern California. Paul and Delma moved to Gunnison, Utah in 1954. She dedicated her life to raising her four sons and one daughter. Her children followed her example all of whom served full-time missions. She served faithfully in many ward and stake callings, as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple, and supported and served along with her husband in many church assignments.
Delma will be remembered for her sense of humor, selflessness, Christ-like love, and full cookie jar. Her home was a gathering place where everyone felt welcome. She loved spending time with her family in the mountains and Lake
Powell, and was always the life of the party. She
loved quilting, gardening, and the simple joys homemaking.
Survivors include her husband Paul, of Gunnison; their five children: Allen (Diane) Dyreng, Richard (Annette) Dyreng, Kent (Tamara) Dyreng, all of Gunnison; DeAnne (Russell) Anderson, Springville; and Jed (Ann) Dyreng, San Jose, CA. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren as well as her sister Norma Erickson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gunnison Stake Center, 80 West Center where friends may call Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00-10:30 a.m.  Burial  will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery.
