Do you get tired of looking at pictures of my kids? I never will! I apologize if it is a little overkill lately.

My Girls
The other day, I peeked in on Jordyn during her nap and caught her having story time with her bunnies. She lined them all up and read them a bunch of books. I snuck a picture without her knowing. It was just such a sweet moment!
One night, Adalynn was having some tummy time and I decided to snap some pictures. To my surprise, she rolled right over! Jordyn didn't roll over til she was 3 or 4 months, so I was pretty shocked. I have always kind of thought Adalynn was strong and held her head up well, but really, what do I know. She rolled over a few times, and I was able to get it on video.

We Love Adalynn!
After 2.5 weeks of getting to know Adalynn, here is what we have discovered:
Here are some newborn pics we took while my mother in law was here to help. Not great photography, but I am just so in love with this baby that it does not matter!
- She grunts all day/night. Her nicknames all have some form of "grunt" like Gruntina, Sister Gruntsalot, Lady Grunt...you get the picture.
- She has the same mouth and chin as Jordyn. I think she will have her big eyes too. Her head is shaped totally different. The bigger she gets, the more I think she looks like Jordyn, but not totally the same.
- I love having a baby with hair.
- She is strong! She holds her head up pretty well. The nurses said she has got some fight in her.
- She spits up a lot, and soaks her clothes. It is ok though, cause she has a lot of cute newborn clothes she needs to wear before she gets too big!
- We tried to let her sleep in our room. She made it two weeks, which is longer than Jordyn made it. She is just such a grunter, and I am such a light sleeper. Not a good combo.
- I love her skin color. She is much darker than Jordyn, and a whole lot darker than me. She has barely even seen the sun and already has a better tan than I do.

Fun Times With A Newborn
Life with a newborn is nuts. What is even more nuts is the stuff I try to do with a newborn. Take for instance... a train ride to 14,000 feet. Yes, I took my 10 day old baby on a train to the top of Pikes Peak. I called the doctor beforehand and made sure that that kind of elevation was safe for the baby. She gave me the ok, and we hopped on the train with Grandma and Grandpa Barton. An EMT at the top of the mountain asked me how old Adalynn was and looked dumbfounded when I said 10 days. We had a lot of fun though. After 3 days in the hospital, and day after day resting at home trying to recover from C-section and infection, I needed to get out of the house. And Pikes Peak is always a beautiful outing!
Then there was the Founder's Picnic. Our HOA hosted a little picnic. This was not as much of a stretch as taking a newborn up to 14,000 feet. Jordyn absolutely loved the bounce houses and obstacle courses. I wish I had kept count of how many she face planted. She even got a balloon animal. Gotta love good free fun!
Jordyn was sooooo excited to ride the train. I really don't know if I have ever seen her so excited about anything!
It is flippin' windy up there.

Probably dressing her in a skirt was not the smartest thing.

Adalynn Ann Barton
I love birth stories, so here is our latest!
We had a C-section scheduled for Monday, July 8th. We had to be at the hospital at 5 a.m. We checked in and we got into a curtain room to get the IV and all that. Waiting there for almost an hour, I started getting really nauseous and nervous. Pretty soon all the doctors and nurses started coming in and I was wheeled into the operating room, which seemed to be on the other side of the hospital! Chad was already in scrubs, but they asked him to stay outside the O.R. until they were ready to operate. I had a spinal block, and that was weird and kind of painful. I was suddenly really, really, nauseous and almost lost it, but levels were soon regulated and I felt much better as they began the procedure. It was also great when Chad was finally able to get in there. I did not like being away from him! Throughout the operation, I was pretty out of it ans drugged up!
The operation went well and I was relieved to hear my baby girl cry. Her official time of birth was 7:50. Length 20 inches. Weight 7lbs 13 oz. She had a little bit of a breathing problem. She had a little extra fluid in her lungs. They were sure after a little bit of time on oxygen, she would get better. So she went under the all too familiar oxygen helmet. Jordyn was under that oxygen for 5 days and it was torture. I was terrified Adalynn would be the same. They wheeled my hospital bed into the nursery so I could at least see and touch her. I did not get to hold her yet. But at lease I got to see her for about 5 minutes before I was wheeled into my room.
After about 5 1/2 hours on the oxygen, she was not getting any better. Their policy was that after 6 hours on oxygen, the baby would be moved into the NICU. I desperately did not want to go through that again. The nurses were trying lots of things to get her breathing more regulated. The gave her another bath, and her cries and screams seemed to clear her lungs just in time to keep her out of the NICU. After nearly 6 hours, she was cleared to come into my room and we finally got to hold little Adalynn! What a long day, and it was only 2 pm!
My mom brought Jordyn in that evening. Her first reaction was, "Oh, baby sister's so cute!" Followed by, "She's so tiny!". Just the reaction we were expecting. Adalynn had brought her a little doctor toy kit and Jordyn's attention was soon taken over by her new gift from baby sister. She loves her sister, and checks up on her often. She is really concerned about baby sister crying!
After day 3 in the hospital, I was sooo ready to go home. We came home on Thursday the 11th. The time there was nice though; nice to have others taking care of me and Adalynn and knowing Jordyn was being taken care of by my mom and Chad. I took lots and lots of pictures in hopes to document and remember those first few days of Adalynn's life!
